Corrections Policy

How We Handle Errors and Corrections

Mzansi Online is committed to accuracy. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently. This page explains our corrections process and how you can report an error to our editorial team.

Our Commitment

No news organisation is infallible. When errors occur, whether factual, typographical or contextual, we believe readers deserve to know they have been corrected. Mzansi Online does not delete or quietly alter articles to hide mistakes. All significant corrections are noted within the article itself so that readers who shared or bookmarked the original can see what changed and why.

Types of Corrections

Minor corrections (spelling errors, typographical mistakes, formatting issues) are fixed silently within the article body. No correction note is added for errors that do not affect the meaning or accuracy of the story.

Factual corrections (wrong names, dates, figures, quotes or events) are corrected in the article body and accompanied by a clearly marked correction note at the top of the article stating what was changed and when. Example: “Correction (12 June 2026): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the match score as 2-1. The correct score was 3-1. We regret the error.”

Significant corrections (errors that materially change the meaning of a story, or that required a headline change) are noted prominently at the top of the article. We may also publish a brief correction notice on our social media channels.

Response Time

We aim to review and publish corrections within 24 hours of a verified error being reported. For breaking news stories where accuracy is time-sensitive, we prioritise corrections and update articles continuously as new verified information becomes available.

How to Report an Error

If you believe you have found an error in one of our articles, we want to hear from you. Please contact our editorial team at contact form with the following information:

  • The title or URL of the article in question
  • The specific error you have identified
  • What you believe the correct information to be, and any sources supporting your claim

We review all correction requests carefully and respond within 48 hours. Submitting a correction request does not guarantee a correction will be published, but every submission is investigated by our editorial team.

Retractions

In rare cases where an article is found to be substantially inaccurate or to have caused harm, Mzansi Online may retract the article in its entirety. Retracted articles are not deleted. Instead, the article content is replaced with a retraction notice explaining why the article was retracted and when. We believe in transparency even when the news is not in our favour.

Right of Reply

Any individual or organisation that believes they have been misrepresented in a Mzansi Online article has the right to request a response or clarification. We will publish fair and relevant responses either within the original article or as a follow-up story, at the editorial team’s discretion.
