There was confusion in Durban this weekend after Mzansi Hottie Khanyi Mbau missed an important Friday appointment at the South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards, but arrived at the Vodacom Durban July the next day.
Khanyi was booked as one of the hosts at the launch held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, KZN.
Seipati Shange, spokeswoman for the awards, said Khanyi was supposed to arrive in Durban on Thursday.
“She told us she wasn’t feeling well and when I called her on Friday, she promised to come on time. But she never arrived.
“I contacted her again, but she wasn’t answering her phone.”
Khanyi has already been confirmed as the host of the main awards ceremony to be held in Durban next month, and in the North West in September.
The next day she confirmed by SMS that she would be at the Durban July. She said she had been in hospital, but wouldn’t say what was wrong.
Khanyi was supposed to launch the awards’ bus, but the event went ahead without her.
Speaking about the bus, Seipati said: “It will be visiting all nine provinces to promote the awards.
“The tourism department in each province will be showing us their historical and cultural sites.”
On Friday, the bus was already making its way to East London, Eastern Cape.
