“I Have No Pressure To Fill My Brother’s Shoes At Orlando Pirates” ,Thamsanqa Sangweni

Siyabonga Sangweni’s young brother Midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni says he didn’t join Orlando Pirates to emulate the success of his older brother, but to make his own mark at the Soweto club and that he joined because he loves the club.

Sangweni signed a three-year deal with Pirates from Chippa United earlier this month, following in his brother’s footsteps to become the second in the Sangweni family to don the black and white colours of the Buccaneers.

Speaking to KickOff.com, Sangweni says he is aware of the expectations that come with playing for a big team like Pirates, but is ready to handle the pressure that comes with it.

“Wherever you work, there is pressure because you have to do well,” he says. “I also have pressure.

“Siya played here and I am now also here, but I am not going to put pressure on myself because of what Siya achieved here. I also want to secure my own achievements with the club.

“Every player here at Pirates is here to achieve. I am also here to achieve a lot of things and add value to the club, and hopefully everything works well for me here.”

Following a dismal season at Mayfair, the former Chilli Boys midfielder believes that team work will help the Ghost regain their glory days this coming season.

“It’s not only about me, but all of us work together to achieve success,” he says. “The team did not do well last season, and the chairman and supporters are looking for a better performance this coming season.

“Hopefully we will work together as a team to achieve our goals in the new season.”
