Four people were left injured on Wednesday afternoon after two trucks and a taxi crashed on the R21 eastbound before in Centurion.
Ten people were assessed by paramedics, four people were found to had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene they found all three vehicles in the two right-hand lanes of the highway.
It emerged that the plastic bags were from one of the trucks and were spread across a number of the lanes on the highway.
Traffic was heavily affected in the area due to the debris on the highway.
