Johannesburg celebrities flocked to Chez Charlene Conference and Wedding Venue outside Pretoria on Wednesday night to celebrate Joe Ferrari’s 50th birthday party.
The wealthy taxi owner whose real name is Joe Sibanyoni spent R3-million on his lavish bash with a zing added by the presence of television and music stars. The theme was formal monochrome and stars such as Nomzamo Mbatha, Amanda duPont, Pearl Thusi, DJ Zinhle, Lerato Kganyago, Tbo Touch and Moneoa graced the occasion.
Also making a comeback to the party scene was controversial sushi king Kenny Kunene.
The birthday boy – a father of 11 – sat on a gold throne flanked by his two wives, Rose and Theo. He was in a tailored white tux jacket.
Some 350 guests were welcomed by a number of red, black and yellow Ferraris. His colleagues in the taxi business included Bafana Sindane, his best friend, who also spent millions last year on his celeb-studded nuptials in Kwaggafontein.
Sibanyoni had the venue decorated with 5000 white roses to complement the luxurious black and white décor.
Thusi, who MC’d the party, walked on to the stage in white bum shorts covered by a long white cape. She later changed into a short gold glittery number.
Traditional dancers kick-started the party. French champagne and the finest whisky flowed throughout the evening. Sibanyoni and his two wives cut the cake and the tycoon’s family, friends and celebrities partied a storm.
