Vavi MUST APOLOGISE for using Cosatu Offices as Brothel. Fired Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi need to apologise to the federation for using its offices as a brothel, a Young Communist League rally in Durban was told on Saturday.

Cosatu second deputy president Zingiswa Losi said: “We are demanding an apology from him for using our offices as a brothel. We are still waiting for that apology,” she said.

Losi said that she wanted to remand Vavi that the federation had fought against Aids denialism as well as privatisation.

Losi’s comments follow Vavi’s apology made on Power FM to former President Thabo Mbeki. He apologised to Mbeki for believing that Mbeki and his allies conspired to dismiss President Jacob Zuma from office in 2005.

She said that Vavi needed to apologise and stop thinking he was an organisation because he had a laptop and a cellphone.

Vavi had previously admitted to having sexual relations with a 26-year old colleague in the Cosatu offices in Johannesburg. Vavi claimed that the woman attempted to extort R200 000 from him to keep the affair quiet.

There is no love lost between Losi and Vavi, with Losi long campaigning for his expulsion.

Losi came under fire last year when it emerged that she was no longer a member of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), but still held the position of second deputy president in Cosatu.

Later she became a shop steward for the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) even though at the time she did not have a job in a prison or the police.

Popcru was one of the unions that supported Vavi’s expulsion.

In December last year Eye Witness News reported that Numsa’s Irvin Jim said that the union had approached the Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to investigate how Losi had been appointed a deputy director general of the police.
