As a warm-up for his big debut as host of The Daily Show later this year, Trevor Noah’s stand-up gig in front of a New York audience went off hilariously.
They loved his South African jokes too.
On Saturday night Noah performed to a full house at the Paramount Theatre, in New York.
Noah, who has said he has had to tweak his jokes to give them an international appeal, definitely tickled the Americans’ funny bones.
Noah shared with the audience his family’s excitement when he was revealed as the next host of The Daily Show earlier this year.
According to Digital Journal, he told the Long Island crowd that his grandmother’s reaction to the news was priceless.
She said, “You got a new job, which is fun.”
Noah told her that he already had a job, but his grandmother did not consider his previous performances as “jobs” because he did not have his own office.
The comedian appeared on stage casually dressed in a black shirt and jeans. There was no hint of nervousness, considering that on September 28 he will be stepping in to fill the shoes of one of the US’s most popular comedians, Jon Stewart.
Noah seemed to be fitting in well with his American audience, even trying out a couple of South African jokes. He cracked a few jokes about the trial of his homeboy, convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius.
Audience members, clearly impressed by the funny man’s skills, took to Twitter to share their thoughts about him.
@jonmarsh62 tweeted: #TrevorNoah was superb 2nite. Funny, truthful and smart. He’s going to be fun to watch on the #DailyShow.
