Bonang Matheba will not be smoking the peace pipe with rival Pearl Thusi any day soon.

The two duelling TV and radio divas treated their social media followers to a showdown on Monday night when Matheba replied to a question from a fan on why she has not responded to Thusi’s persistent critique of her.

They are both DJs on Metro FM.

Matheba wrote: “@EllaStemela @pearlthusi thats like an old pair of leather shoes that I don’t even know when or where I bought. SOO tired. Time 4 new.”

In a brief chat with the Sowetan yesterday, Matheba said she would not sit down to iron out matters with Thusi.

She then forwarded all questions to her publicist, Pumza Nohashe, who said Matheba could no longer keep quiet when fans asked her about her relationship with Thusi.

“For almost six months now, since 14 September 2015, Matheba has found herself in the unfortunate position of being asked the same question by fans on social media, up until Monday 18 January 2016.

“She had taken the high-road, by ignoring it. As someone who understands human dynamics, she fully accepts that she has no control over how people choose to perceive or portray her.

“She cannot speak nor (sic) engage on what others allege or insinuate about her character, without ever seeking to engage her on it. Thusi has always chosen to focus on her work and continues to enjoy respectful and meaningful relations with her industry peers,” the statement read.

The rift between the two was initially noticed when Thusi sided with DJ Zinhle when Matheba’s clandestine relationship with Zinhle’s boyfriend, rapper AKA, came to light.

Thusi wrote on Twitter: “Is there an #askawoman to find out how to apologise to the woman who was sleeping with your man? #askingforafriend.”

It was a play on words of #Askaman, a segment on Matheba’s radio show where listeners call in for help with personal problems. Thusi asked for questions to be e-mailed to her, but later said she was too busy to attend to them and would respond afterwards. She hadn’t done so at the time of going to print.
