Hollywood actress Thandie Newton has spoken out about allegedly being sexually abused by a high-profile Hollywood director when she first entered the industry.
In a telling interview with W Magazine, Thandie revealed how a movie director asked her to fondle her breasts with a camera up her skirt during an audition
“(He) asked me to touch my t*ts and think about the guy making love to me in the scene. I thought, ‘OK, this is a little weird,’ but there was a female casting director in the room and I’d done weird stuff before so I did it,” she told the publication.
The Mission Impossible II star told the publication that she had put the shocking ordeal behind her until another producer inappropriately spoke about ‘seeing her’ in a way she couldn’t understand.
Apparently Thandie bumped into the producer who had indulged in too much alcohol at a recent film festival, which jolted her memory about the ordeal.
When Thandie’s husband OJ Parker apparently questioned the producer over the comment, he revealed that the director was allegedly showing the audition tape to his friends after poker games at his house.
The 43-year-old actress told the magazine that she decided to speak out to raise awareness among other young actresses.
“I was so so naive when I started out and I realise now that we have to prepare our kids – I’ve got two beautiful daughters, one is 16 one is 11. One person will read this and it will stop them getting sexually abused by a director. That’s the person I’m interested in.”
