IT WAS a happy day for Platinum Stars fans but for Thabiso Semenya it was a day of sorrow.
The Dikwena player was travelling with his wife to the game when she was killed in a horrific car accident. Semenya’s agent Tim Sukazi said Thabiso’s family was handling the matter. “My heartfelt condolences to the family,” he said. Dikwena issued a statement on their website.
“Platinum Stars would like to send their heartfelt condolences to our defender Thabiso Semenya, who lost his wife in a car accident last night,” said their post.
Semenya and his wife were travelling to Rustenburg’s Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace to watch Platinum Stars FC against Kaizer Chiefs when the accident happened. Semenya sustained some bruises and is recovering at home.
Platinum Stars’ General Manager Senzo Mazingiza said they are saddened.
“On behalf of the club and all the players and staff we would like to send our deepest condolences to Semenya and the family for their loss. They are in our thoughts and prayers in these trying times,” he said.
“The club will issue further details at a later stage. For now it is important that we keep Semenya and the family in our prayers and support them in whatever way we can.”
