SINGER Judith Sephuma’s mum has died.
Mme Sephuma died yesterday at a Joburg hospital after fighting a long illness.
Sources said they learnt of her death when Sephuma’s team, in panic mode, called the South African Music Awards committee yesterday afternoon.
They were trying to make a plan with regard to her scheduled performance at the awards ceremony, which will take place on Saturday at Durban’s International Convention Centre.
A source said: “She has been nominated for the Female Artist of the Year award as well as the Best Adult Contemporary Album award for her One Word album.
“She was billed to perform and had been meeting up with designers to finalise her outfits. Her team is running around trying to do reschedule her confirmed bookings.”
One of her performances is scheduled for Friday in Nelspruit as part of the One Night With Karabo Mogane. Karabo is last year’s winner of Idols SA.
Promoter Lehlogonolo Mogane said Judith’s team called to inform him of her loss.
He said: “They called us in the morning to alert us. But they haven’t cancelled or told us if she will be able to honour her booking. We will support whatever decision she takes concerning the show.”
Another source said Judith’s mum had been moved from Limpopo to a Joburg hospital so she could be closer to her kids.
Judith’s publicist, Kgomotso Modise, confirmed the matter but refused to comment. Total Exposure, the SAMAs’ public relations company, said they’re still waiting for a statement from their client.
