Zimbabwe President MUGABE SLAMS CALLS FOR Omar AL-BASHIR’S ARREST. African Union (AU) Chair Robert Mugabe has lashed out at civil society groups that called for the arrest of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, accusing them of being paid informers of European governments.

mugabeThe High Court in Pretoria on Monday ruled that al-Bashir be arrestedand handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC), where he’s wanted on charges including genocide and crimes against humanity.

But al-Bashir took off from the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria hours before that ruling was made.

Mugabe has said the NGOs are financed by foreign powers to see what African governments are doing and how they’re running their countries.

He said Zimbabwe has never signed up to the ICC because he doesn’t want to be subjected to justice by outsiders.

AU Commissioner Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma told reporters there is nothing unusual about Sudan’s president attending the AU Summit, which was no different from other African leaders coming together.

She pointed out that in terms of the host agreement South Africa signed, the Sandton Convention Centre became AU territory, although it is on African soil.
