Western Cape police on Wednesday boasted of a third R1-million-plus cocaine haul in as many days at at Cape Town International Airport

Those who thought that Cape Town is an easy entry for drugs were yet again taught a lesson today‚” said Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut after a drug mule was apprehended.

“The 40-year-old suspect from Johannesburg arrived on a flight from the Middle East and was arrested by SAPS members who were conducting an intelligence-driven operation.

“She was found in possession of 3kg cocaine with an estimated street value of R1.2-million. Once charged‚ she will make a court appearance in Bellville on a charge of dealing in drugs.”

Wednesday’s arrest followed that of the discovery on Tuesday of 2.9kg cocaine valued at R1.1-million‚ which saw one suspect nabbed‚ and on Monday of 3.8kg cocaine valued at R1.5-million‚ after which two suspects were taken into custody.

“We have reason to believe that the suspects are linked to the same syndicate using the same method of poorly concealing the contraband in chocolate packaging. “

“We are pleased with the outcome of the latest interventions at the airport and deem the arrests as a major blow to the drug trade.”
