MYSTERY surrounds the death of a teenage boy. He was found hanging by his school tie from a tree on Saturday. The body of Phumelela Ngubane (13) from L section in KwaMashu, north of Durban, was found by kids playing in the bush.
Although the cops opened an inquest docket, Phumelela’s mum said she suspected her son was murdered and hanged by someone practising witchcraft.
The boy’s mum, Lindiwe Nene (40) said her son had a stab wound to his back, half of his hair was shaved off and he was still wearing his school uniform.
“I think evil people who want to see me suffer are behind this. Why was he half shaved? Maybe they took his hair for witchcraft,” she said.
“I know for a fact he didn’t want to die. He was happy and didn’t complain about anything.”
She said Phumelela left for school on Wednesday but never returned home. “When it got late I started searching for him. I was worried when no one knew where he was,” she said.
Lindiwe said she went to her son’s school on Thursday and was told he had been seen last the previous morning.
“I reported him missing at the police station, but when I got a call from cops saying they had found a body I didn’t imagine it would be his,” she said. Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said an inquest docket was opened.
“Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” said Gwala.
