The Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg was the place to be this weekend. That’s where the first BET Experience Africa saw people coming from all over Mzansi to enjoy an out of this world concert.
It saw Africa’s big names such as Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz, Nigeria’s Flavour and Mzansi’s very own Composure hitmaker AKA perform before the US artists took to the stage.
After rapper Young Thug entertained the crowd, the area started filling up as Raphael Saadiq and RnB queen Mary J Blige and Maxwell were about to go on stage.
Madula Ngwasheng (28) said she’d come to watch the US singers.
“I’ve seen most of the artists in the line-up perform, so I’m here for those three.”
Among them were Nomvula hitmaker Nathi, as well as new kid on the block Emtee and rapper Fifi Cooper.
There was something for everyone, including a drifting show performed by professional drivers featuring the Chevrolet SS Lumina.
Comedians Skhumba Hlophe, Tats Nkozo and Kenya’s Churchill had the audience laughing their lungs out in the packed hall.
At the celebrity basketball game, radio DJ Tbo Touch’s team went head to head with Minister Fikile Mbalula’s team. Mbalula’s team was beaten 19-15 by their opponents.
The game featured celebrities such as Khanyi Mbau, Kaizer Chiefs players Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Morgan Gould, rappers JR, Reason, Slikour and Riky Rick, who was judged the most valuable player of the day.
Mbalula said the evening was a way of bringing people together in a positive way.
