A TRAGIC accident has claimed the lives of three family members in the early hours of Sunday morning. It happened when their car crashed head-on with a taxi on the west bound M19 near Blair Atholl off-ramp in Westville, Durban.
The husband and wife, including their two-year-old baby, died on the scene while seven passengers from the taxi escaped with serious injuries. They were then rushed to hospital.
Garrith Jamieson, spokesman for Rescue Care Paramedics, said that when paramedics arrived on the scene they found total carnage.
“Two vehicles had collided head-on in the wet weather.
“Paramedics assessed the scene and found that three people from the car had tragically died,” Jamieson told the People’s Paper.
He said seven people who had been stuck in the taxi had sustained serious injuries and the jaws of life had to be used to free them.
KZN police spokeswoman Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said: “We confirm a case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Sydenham cops.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have the names of the dead people at this stage.”
