There is a large police contingent on the N4 route linking Rustenburg and Pretoria in Majakaneng near Brits.
This after chaos erupted when a group of angry community members barricaded the road with objects and pelted passing vehicles with stones.
It is alleged that the community demand that the IFM mine operating in the area employ locals rather than outsiders.
Police spokesperson Paul Ramaloko says: “A group of young men during the early hours of this morning around four o’clock attempted to block the N4 and some roads leading to the IFM mine properties. They pelted several vehicles with the stones and set alight one truck.”
Police say no one has been arrested.
“The public order police are monitoring the situation at the moment situation is calm and under control,” adds Ponatshego Madisa
