Popular Isibaya actor, Bongani Gumede, spent time in hospital this past week.
Bongani, who plays Mandla Ndlovu, also known as “Gatsheni”, was admitted to the Rietvlei Hospital in Umzimkhulu, in the south of KwaZulu-Natal.
Sources said the star arrived at the district hospital in his maroon Audi A3 on Tuesday afternoon.
“But he wasn’t driving. Someone else was behind the wheel. When they arrived at the hospital, he was assisted out of the car into the casualty ward,” said the source.
The source said Gatsheni had hospital staff in a tizz.
“When the maroon Audi A3 with a Jozi registration number plate parked in the driveway, all eyes were on it. We saw Gatsheni being moved out. He tried to cover his face but it was too late as we had already seen him. We ran to take photos of him but he didn’t like it,” said the source.
A hospital employee said Gatsheni’s condition was so bad that he didn’t want any visitors.
“Not even his own family members were allowed in. We don’t know what’s bothering him because no one wants to talk,” said the source.
Friends close to Gatsheni, who is known for his brutal and vicious character in the Mzansi telenova, told Sunday Sun he instructed his doctors not to allow any visitors to his bed.
Another source said Gatsheni is embarrassed that he is treated at a public hospital.
“His hospital bed is always covered and he keeps covering his face when people pass by.
“He seems to have lost weight. He used the hospital curtains for privacy,” said the source.
Isibaya’s publicist, Emma Ngomane, confirmed that Gatsheni was hospitalised.
“We’re in contact with Bongani Gumede and can confirm he has been discharged. We’re looking forward to having him back on set,” Emma said.
