A groom who appeared on the latest episode of ‘Our Perfect Wedding’ has been arrested for faking payment.
Wanda Mhobo was set to marry his bride, Ratanang on December 5 at a wedding venue which he had booked and paid a deposit for.
However on the day of the white wedding, Mhobo disappeared and claimed he had been hijacked. The bride, guests and pastor were not allowed into the venue because the owners had not received the full payment.
In the Our Perfect Wedding episode which aired on Mzansi Magic on Sunday, Mhobo reappeared a day later and eventually had a back yard garden wedding.
He did not immediately explain where he had disappeared to but said he regretted embarrassing his bride as he had left her at the altar.
According to Sunday World, despite the wedding taking place, Mhobo and his bride were beset with more drama after he was arrested by the Midrand police for fraud on December 18.
Sally Slade the owner of Ambrosia Hall where the wedding was supposed to take place opened a case after a fake proof of payment was submitted to her by Mhobo a day before the nuptials.
“I then received an email with an attachment that purported to be a Capitec Bank proof of electronic funds transfer. When I received the proof of payment I telephoned Ambrosia Hall’s bankers, Standard Bank, to ask if there was a pending credit. I gave Standard Bank all of the details on the Capitec Bank document but they could not confirm the transactions, and Capitec also failed to confirm it,” said Slade.
She said she became suspicious after the DJ and photographer said they both had not been paid in full. Speaking from jail, Mhobo said he was under pressure to get married and forged the payment as a last resort to please his wife. He said his wife had lost her speech and was suffering from depression as a result of the incident.
