CliffCentral has revealed that a podcast with Gareth Cliff, DJ Fresh and Dali Mpofu discussing race and Gareth being labelled a racist has had almost double the amount of downloads than any previous guest on the show.
Gareth was axed from Idols after his controversial tweets regarding racial messages on social media vs freedom of speech. A day before it was announced that Gareth would no longer be on the judging panel, he hosted 5FM’s DJ Fresh and advocate Dali Mpofu.
In an almost hour long conversation between them, Fresh and Dali gave context as to why Gareth’s online messages lack empathy and could be considered as racist.
CliffCentral’s co-founder and manager to Gareth, Rina Broomberg says the show broke records. “The podcast with adv Dali Mpofu and DJ Fresh chatting to Gareth now holds the record for the highest number of ‘Gareth’s Guests’ podcasts, beating the previous record of Julius Malema by almost double. There is much greater awareness now as more and more people catch on to the convenience of listening to podcasts.”
And it’s not just that podcast that has seen an unprecedented amount of growth. Broomberg says the online radio station has seen spikes across all channels in the past week. “The actual numbers change on a daily basis, but CliffCentral has seen growth across all our platforms this week including Twitter following, website traffic and app downloads.”
Soooo, about that boycott…
