Sindisiwe Manqele told the Johannesburg High Court on Thursday that she and her slain rapper boyfriend Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi were planning to get married.
Manqele‚ 26‚ said this as prosecutor Paul Schutte cross-examined her.
She stands accused of the murder of Habedi‚ 37‚ who died of a stab wound to the chest in his Alexandra home on March 9.
She has pleaded not guilty and has said she stabbed Habedi in self-defence.
Manqele told the court that she and Habedi had planned to get married.
“He was to pay lobola this year in June‚” she said.
Habedi was estranged from his wife‚ Mpho.
She said Habedi was not an aggressive person and that his behaviour on the night he died had been “out of character“.
She also told the court she and Habedi had not spoken for two years when she moved to Ireland in 2009. They started speaking again in 2013.
The two then broke up in January after she discovered messages from three different women Habedi was allegedly having sexual relationships with‚ Manqele said.
She said she was hurt by the discovery of Habedi’s alleged infidelity.
She was also concerned that she would be infected with HIV as she and Habedi were not using protection during s e x.
