President Jacob Zuma’s r#pe accuser Fezekile Kuzwayo will be laid to rest today in Durban, a family member said.
Kuzwayo, who was known as Khwezi during the r#pe trial, died on Saturday night.
Her family said she had been unwell for a while.
They asked for a private ceremony with a public memorial planned for next week. Security is expected to be tight at the funeral. The family has been living in fear since the trial in 2006 when their family home was burnt down. They had recently returned from living in exile in the Netherlands where they had sought asylum.
Kuzwayo has been hailed as a gender and HIV activist for speaking openly about her status. Her friends and family told News24 she had just begun “piecing together her shattered life”. Last month former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils had committed to donating R500 000 from his defamation claim against the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association and chairperson Kebby Maphatsoe to Khuzwayo.
The money was supposed to help her better her education as well as help her ailing mother
