A TAXI Owner from Inanda Taxi Association, north of Durban, is lucky to be alive. The 50-year-old man and his companion dodged a hail of bullets and escaped with minor injuries in a drive-by shooting on Friday afternoon.
They were travelling towards Salt Rock near KwaDukuza when a white car suddenly blocked their way and its occupants started firing shots. The taxi owner lost control of his Ford Ranger bakkie and it veered off the road. There were 14 bullet holes in the driver’s side.
The attempts to reach the taxi association chairman Vusi Sosibo on his phone failed.
Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said: “A 50-year-old victim was allegedly attacked by unknown men who shot at him with a high calibre firearm while he was driving on the N2 north.
“He lost control of his vehicle and it overturned but he was not injured,” she said.
No arrests have been made.
