THEY came out with sirens and guns blazing!
Vereeniging police received a tip-off about an illegally run initiation school in the dark mountains of Rietfontein, just outside Poortjie, in the Vaal.
Seven boys from Orange Farm are said to have been forcefully taken for initiation.
The SunTeam joined the manhunt and after two hours of searching, the school was found. On seeing the police, a group ran away deeper into the forest. Of the seven boys, two, both aged 16, were rescued and five escaped.
Empty bottles of spirits and beers were found lying around the camp.
The boys were barefooted with just a sling tied around their waists.
One of the rescued boys said he was tricked by boys from his neighbourhood to accompany them.
He said: “When we arrived at the place, a man told us he was taking us to the mountain to become men.
“I was scared but I couldn’t say no because they threatened to beat me up.”
The second boy said he attempted to escape but was captured and beaten every day.
He said: “From then on I was tied to a tree with a rope. As it is, I am living in fear because I don’t know what’s going to happen to me because those guys have threatened to kill me.”
Spinare Mofokeng (59), chairman of the Sedibeng Initiation Schools Traditional Committee, said: “These boys were taken without their parents’ consent.”
Constable Vuyani Mthimkhulu said: “We managed to rescue two of the boys. They were treated for injuries before being taken back to their parents.
