A TEACHER at Phateng Secondary School has learned the hard way that if you strike a pupil, you strike the Congress of South African Students.
A video of the teacher being dragged out of the classroom by congress members on Friday has gone viral.
The video shows the teacher, who had allegedly hit a pupil a few days earlier, being pulled out of classroom and surrounded by pupils. A source said the teacher was given hot klaps before being dragged out of the Tshwane school.
“Lessons were disrupted by the incident and when the principal tried to intervene, pupils didn’t want to listen to him. They nearly attacked him as well, claiming he didn’t know how to run the school. He was escorted out of the school by the cops,” said the source. Thabang Matlhomola, chairman of the congress in Tshwane, said Cosas members dragged the teacher out of the classroom but were not involved in beating him.
Oupa Bodibe, acting spokesman for the Gauteng Education Department, said they were aware of the incident. However, he said the congress claimed that it was not aware of the incident.
“The congress has distanced itself from what happened. The matter has been referred to the district’s labour relations department for investigation,” said Bodipe.
