THE NJOKO family became part of a horror scene when a Rea Vaya bus crashed into their kitchen.
The family had been watching TV in their lounge on Tuesday when they heard a loud bang.
Isaac Njoko (69) went to investigate and saw the front section of the Rea Vaya bus.
The bus was right inside the kitchen of his house in Jabulani, Soweto.
Shocked Isaac said he was greeted by faint screams for help.
And that is when he spotted family member Dineo Maseko. Dineo was trapped under the rubble.
The 27-year-old had been in the garage.
The bus had also crashed into a Honda, with two occupants, parked outside the house.
Dineo, the bus driver and both occupants were injured.
The four were treated on the scene before being rushed to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where they are recovering. Isaac said he is grateful to his neighbours, who came out to offer assistance when they saw the chaos.
Chris Khanyile (62) said he was in the house when the crash happened.
“I thought the whole house was going to fall on us. The children were crying. It was just chaotic. The family has been traumatised by this.”
Chris said officials from Rea Vaya had met the family and apologised for what happened.
“They’ve promised to offer professional counselling to the family.
“We want them to take full responsibility for what has happened, which includes fixing all the damage to the house.”
“If we get no assistance, we will have no option but to lay charges,” he said.
Chris said police have
advised them to meet the company officials before opening a case.
