Beautiful Actress Angelina Jolie is in South Africa and is expected to speak at the African Union Assembly on violence against women in conflict.
Jolie landed at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon with her son Pax.
The director, actor and United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Refugees had indicated she would be attending the African Union (AU) summit. The AU is holding its 25th assembly in Sandton’s Convention Centre, with leaders such as Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir attending.
A source close to the United Nations in South Africa said Jolie was invited to South Africa as a special guest of African Union Committee Chairperson Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. She is said to be in South Africa with another charity working to protect women’s rights in war zones
According to the United National Human Rights Council (UNHRC) website, Jolie has personally donated more than $5-million to the council since 2001.
